“Immediately when I saw this colour it reminded me of many things but there were two that mainly stuck out to me. One of them being old castles strangely enough, it reminded me of that nostalgic feeling that you would get watching on old movie. Running through a castle with no shoes on, in a beautiful and detailed gown that follows behind you, windswept. A glorious feeling, a vibe that would be able to feel whilst watching something like 'Romeo & Juliet' or 'The Phantom of the Opera'. That magical feeling both those movies had created, when you personally feel what the character is starting to feel, you begin to romanticise it in your own head. That’s where I started off when beginning this production!

Something else that really stuck out to me when I was given this colour was that I had seen this colour or similar before. I've seen it in libraries, and my Grandmother’s old book collection. She had kept the books of her parents and theirs, which created this lovely antique collection of old books, I remember when I was younger looking through them (whilst being told to be careful) trying to guess what book was which, as they had no title. Just a book wrapped in a lovely deep pandemonium leather! With nothing but a gold design down the spine.

After a while of thinking and pondering I decided I wanted to merge these two ideas together, because in those castles and old buildings where old money and history lays. You will find these libraires covered and scattered in all these types of books going from the ground to the ceiling! Almost like something out of Harry Potter.

To show this in my design I have used pleats to show the book spines stacked layers upon layers in libraires or even little bookshelves like my Grandmother! To incorporate my other main idea, I wanted to use the exaggerated ballon sleeves and the flowy caught in the wind maxi skirt, to create that dramatic flexible effect! So, when running or any sort of movement, the garment will swifty follow behind!”
