Blue chalkboard
It’s easy to create this fabulous blue chalkboard from an old framed picture and Resene Chalkboard Paint.

Difficulty level: Moderate
You will need: Clean cloth, old framed picture witha particleboard backing, paintbrush, pliers, Resene Chalkboard Paint - your choice of blue, Resene Quick Dry, Resene testpot of Resene Apache, Resene testpot of Resene Gold Dust , sandpaper, small paint tray and roller, small stick for stirring, Staple gun.
To get the look: Mark painted the background wall with Resene SpaceCote Flat tinted to Resene Double Alabaster.
Other ideas: Create a bold pink effect using Resene Chalkboard Paint in your favourite Resene pink and paint the frame with a basecoat of Resene Porsche and two topcoats of Resene Bullion.
Step one
Carefully remove the old picture and particleboard backing.
Step two
Lightly sand the picture frame to ‘key’ the surface and wipe off any sanding residue with a clean cloth.
Step three
Apply one coat of
Resene Quick Dry to the picture frame and allow to dry.
Step four
Apply one coat of
Resene Apache to the picture frame and allow to dry.
Step five
Carefully stir the
Resene Gold Dust with a small stick or piece of wood.
Step six
Apply two coats of
Resene Gold Dust to the picture frame, allowing two hours for each coat to dry.
Step seven
Apply one coat of
Resene Quick Dry to the piece of particleboard and allow to dry.
Step eight
Apply two coats of Resene Chalkboard Paint to the particleboard, allowing two hours for each coat to dry. Fix the particleboard back into the frame with staples.
