Breakfast place setting
Create this vibrant place setting from a plain pine picture frame and a bamboo table mat – and Resene Waterborne Colorwood natural wood stain.

Difficulty level: Easy
You will need: A bamboo table mat, paintbrush, pencil, plain pine picture frame with backing board, pva glue and scissors. Resene Aquaclear satin and a Resene Waterborne Colorwood testpot in Resene Clementine.
To get the look: Mark stained the dining table with Resene Waterborne Colorwood natural wood stain tinted to Resene Mahogany.
Other ideas: For a darker look, try staining the place setting with Resene Waterborne Colorwood tinted to Resene Dark Ebony.
Step one
Remove the backing board from the pine picture frame.
Step two
Place the bamboo table mat underneath the picture frame and trace around the edge with a pencil, as shown.
Step three
Using the pencil lines as a guide, cut the bamboo table mat to fit the frame.
Step four
Remove the strings holding the bamboo sticks together, as shown.
Step five
Fix the backing board back into the frame using PVA glue, allowing the glue to dry for a couple of hours.
Step six
Turn the frame the right way up and glue the bamboo sticks onto the backing board, as shown.
Step seven
Apply one generous coat of Resene Waterborne Colorwood Clementine to the bamboo and outer frame and leave for 48 hours to dry.
Step eight
Apply three coats of Resene Aquaclear to the bamboo and outer frame, allowing two hours for each coat to dry.
