Modern mailbox
Transform a simple plywood mailbox into something much smarter with wood stain colours from the Resene Woodsman range.

Difficulty level: Moderate
You will need: a clean cloth, exterior pva glue, jigsaw, paintbrushes, including an artists’ brush, paint stirrer, pencil, piece of treated plywood, plywood mailbox (ours came from Mitre 10 Mega) and sandpaper. Resene Waterborne Woodsman testpot of Resene Heartwood and Resene Waterborne Woodsman wood stain tinted to Resene Uluru.
To get the look: Mark painted the fence with Resene Lumbersider tinted to Resene Green Pea.
Other ideas: For a cool blue effect try a combination of Resene Pickled Bluewood and Resene Woody Bay.
Step one
Draw the mailbox number on the piece of plywood with a pencil, as shown.
Step two
Carefully cut out the number with a jigsaw.
Step three
Smooth any rough edges with sandpaper and wipe off any sanding dust with a clean cloth.
Step four
Step four Apply two coats of Resene Heartwood to the plywood number allowing two hours for each coat to dry.
Step five
Lightly sand any rough edges on the mailbox and wipe off any sanding dust with a clean cloth.
Step six
Stir the Resene Waterborne woodsman thoroughly with a paint stirrer.
Step seven
Apply two coats of Resene Uluru to the mailbox, allowing two hours for each coat to dry.
Step eight
Fix the number to the front of the mailbox with exterior PVA glue and allow glue to dry.
