Ways with wood with Mark Rayner - Project 78
Difficulty level: Moderate
You will need: 30mm exterior screws, 40mm exterior screws, exterior hinges (x2), gate latch, paintbrush, paint stirrer, pencil Resene Waterborne Woodsman tinted to Resene Silvered Grey, sandpaper (coarse), saw, screwdriver, set square, tape measure, timber decking (approx 7.4m).

Step one
Measure, mark and cut seven lengths of timber decking at 800mm and two lengths at 900mm (or however wide you need your gate to be).
Step two

Step three
In the same way fix the remaining lengths of wood to the frame, as shown, ensuring they are evenly spaced.
Step four
Fix the gate to the gatepost using the two hinges and 30mm screws.
Step five
Fix the gate latch into position using 30mm screws.
Step six
Sand any rough edges with coarse sandpaper.
Step eight
Apply two coats of Resene Waterborne Woodsman to the gate, allowing two hours for each coat to dry.
