Varnished chair
It’s easy to revamp an old varnished chair into a stylish piece of furniture with a little bit of help from Resene.
Ways with wood with Mark Rayner - Project 81
Difficulty level: Easy
You will need: Clean cloth, old varnished wooden chair, paintbrush, paint stirrer, Resene Aquaclear semi-gloss, Resene Colorwood Enhance in Resene Red Brown, sandpaper.
To get the look: Mark painted the background wall with Resene SpaceCote Flat tinted to Resene Rice Cake.
Other ideas: For a bolder dark and glossy effect use Resene Colorwood Enhance Black mixed with Resene Aquaclear gloss.
Step one
Lightly sand the chair to ‘key’ the surface.
Step two
Wipe off any sanding residue with a clean cloth.
Step three
Shake the Resene Colorwood Enhance.
Step five
Carefully stir the Resene Colorwood Enhance into the Resene Aquaclear until it’s evenly dispersed.
Step six
Apply one coat of the coloured Resene Aquaclear to the chair, brushing in the direction of the grain, and allow to dry.
Step seven
Apply a second coat of the coloured Resene Aquaclear to the chair, brushing in the direction of the grain, and allow to dry.
Step eight
Apply a third coat of the coloured Resene Aquaclear to the chair, brushing in the direction of the grain, and allow to dry.
