Mark Rayner transforms a humble tin can into a space-saving vertical plant pot in this simple, inexpensive and quick to-make project.
You will need: a 40mm jolt head galvanised nail, tin can, sandpaper, clean cloth, hammer, nail punch, paintbrush and a paint stirrer. Resene Waterborne Smooth Surface Sealer and a Resene testpot of Resene Pohutukawa.
To get the look: Mark stained the background fence with Resene Woodsman Penetrating Oil Stain tinted to Resene Grey Green.
Here's another idea: Hang a group of painted tin cans on a fence to create an instant vertical herb garden.

Step 1
Use the hammer and nail punch to carefully punch a hole in the back of the tin can, as shown – ensure the hole is large enough to fit over the 40mm nail head.
Step 5
Apply one coat of Resene Waterborne Smooth Surface Sealer to the inside and outside of the tin can and allow two hours to dry.
Step 6
Apply one coat of Resene Pohutukawa to the outside of the tin can and allow two hours to dry.
