How to make an indoor plant stand
Mark Rayner constructs a stylish indoor plant stand using some old wooden cupboard doors and finishes it off using a rich combination of Resene Aquaclear and Resene Colorwood Enhance.
You will need:
- 50mm panel pins
- Hammer
- Old wooden cupboard doors (ours were approximately 20mm thick)
- Approx 1.6m length of 35mm x 35mm timber
- PVA glue, paintbrush, paint stirrer, pencil, sandpaper, saw, soft cloth and a tape measure
- Resene Aquaclear gloss
- Resene Colorwood Enhance
Instructions

Step 1
Measure four 400mm lengths from the 40mm x 40mm timber.

Step 2
Carefully cut to form the legs of the plant stand.

Step 3
Take one of the cupboard doors and mark two pieces measuring 700mm x 320mm to form the front and back of the plant stand. Use the back of the saw to ensure cutting lines are at right angles.
Step 4
Carefully cut with a saw using pencil lines as a cutting guide.
Step 5
Take the second cupboard door and mark and cut two pieces measuring 320mm x 250mm to form the sides of the plant stand and one piece measuring 320mm x 660mm to form the base.
Step 6
Attach the legs to the two side pieces, as shown, overlapping by 150mm. Fix with PVA glue and panel pins.
Step 7
Attach the sides to the front panel of the planter, as shown, again fixing with PVA glue and panel pins.
Step 8
Place the base of the planter in position (fixing to the top of each leg with a little PVA glue) and then fix the back panel of the planter into position, as shown. Allow glue to dry overnight.
Step 9
Lightly sand the entire planter and wipe off any sanding residue with a soft cloth.
Step 10
Carefully pour the Resene Colorwood Enhance into the Resene Aquaclear and stir thoroughly.
Step 11
Apply up to four coats of the Resene Aquaclear to the planter, allowing two hours for each coat to dry.
