Painted wall plaque
Transform a simple terracotta wall plaque into a fabulous piece of indoor/outdoor art using your favourite Resene colours.
Resene art with Mark Rayner - Project 36
Difficulty level: Easy
You will need: Paintbrushes (including artists’ brushes), Resene Terracotta Sealer, Resene Testpots in the following colours: Resene Alabaster, Resene Balloon, Resene Get Reddy, Resene Malibu, Resene Nero, Resene Turbo and Resene Yellow Sea, terracotta wall plaque.
To get the look: Mark painted the background wall with Resene SpaceCote Flat tinted to Resene Pohutukawa.
Other ideas: Create a fabulous gold wall plaque using a basecoat of Resene Porsche and two topcoats of Resene Bullion.
Step one
Apply one coat of Resene Terracotta Sealer on all sides of the wall plaque and allow to dry for six hours.
Step two
Apply two coats of Resene Malibu to the back of the wall plaque, allowing two hours for each coat to dry.
Step three
Paint the background areas of the wall plaque with two coats of Resene Malibu, allowing two hours for each coat to dry.
Step four
Paint alternate sun rays with two coats of Resene Balloon, allowing two hours for each coat to dry.
Step five
Paint remaining sun rays with two coats of Resene Yellow Sea, allowing two hours for each coat to dry.
Step six
Paint the inner circle with two coats of Resene Get Reddy and the sun face with two coats of Resene Turbo, allowing two hours for each coat to dry.
Step seven
Paint the lips with Resene Balloon and the eyes with Resene Alabaster and Resene Malibu. Allow to dry for two hours and apply a second coat of each.
Step eight
Paint in eye details with Resene Nero (pupils) and Resene Alabaster (highlights). Allow to dry for two hours before hanging.
