Resene Hybrid Waterborne Super Gloss is the next generation of highgloss finishes, blending the classic durability of Resene Super Gloss with the advantages of waterborne technology but with a cleaner, greener twist. Based on a tough but flexible hybrid waterborne-alkyd resin, this finish offers much lower VOCs, reduced odour, easy clean-up in water and the toughness required for high-wear surfaces.

As well as being available in white and off-whites, one of its standout features is its availability in Resene Blackest Black, Resene’s darkest colour yet, a perfect pick when you want drama, contrast or a bold design statement.

It’s not just style though, Resene Hybrid Waterborne Super Gloss won the Master Painters Best New Paint Product 2025 award, recognising its innovation and performance.

For architects and designers, this gloss works beautifully on joinery, trims, doors, skirting boards and cabinetry, especially where a crisp, reflective finish is desired. It’s also suited for feature panels, decorative metalwork, lobby and reception areas or anywhere high touch and high impact meet high aesthetic standards.

Resene-coloured projects win big at Interior Awards

Ten projects and one up-and-coming designer were honoured at the 14th annual Interior Awards at Auckland’s historic St Matthew-in-the-City – many of which featured Resene paints, wood stains and clears in their creation. Convenor and Architecture NZ interior editor Amanda Harkness was joined on the jury by Céili Murphy, interior sector lead at Architectus New Zealand; Murali Bhaskar, director at Boon in New Plymouth; Natasha Markham, founder of MAUD; and Sam Griffin, creative director of Ctrl Space. Out of the exceptional array of beautiful and innovative projects that were submitted, Palimpsest House by Monk Mackenzie was selected as the Supreme Winner.

“Approached through a forest of pines and set in the dunes where trees give way to sand, Palimpsest House carries the potency of its setting into every interior detail. The contrast between dark, rough pine bark and fine, pale sand informs a restrained yet sensorial material palette that includes textured concrete, stained timber, limestone and bespoke metal details. Consistent with the architectural intent, the interiors are meticulously detailed and reductive in approach – choreographing light, movement and touch to create a quietly immersive experience, deeply rooted in place. An exceptional study in refinement, the result is a calm, poetic, beautifully resolved interior, pure in expression yet complex beneath the surface,” the jury commented.

Other winning projects coloured with Resene include the winner of the Community Impact Award, Harbour Hospice North Shore by Klein Architects, which features Resene Quarter Joanna and Resene Colorwood Ironbark on timber finished in Resene Aquaclear. The Workplace up to 1000m2 Award went to Motion Sickness by Wonder, which is painted in Resene Black White throughout.

Congratulations to all the finalists and winners.

Craftsman chic

Arts and Crafts era wallpaper designs remain popular for their timeless beauty, intricate craftsmanship and celebration of nature which resonates across both traditional and contemporary interiors. Their enduring appeal lies in the way they balance decorative richness with a sense of calm and order. Resene Wallpaper Collection V & A Decorative Papers II 2412-178-01 pays homage to the intricate botanical artistry of William Morris, reinterpreted for today’s interiors. Drawing inspiration from his iconic motifs, this design introduces delicate florals and foliage in an alluring palette of chalky blues, green, golds and orange. Pair it with skirting boards and architraves in Resene Spinnaker, furniture stained in Resene Colorwood Natural, flooring in Resene Colorwood Dark Oak, a ceiling in Resene Ziggurat and decorative accents in Resene Corn Field for an interior that channels a classic English cottage in a modernised colour palette.

Everyone belongs at the table

In Auckland and Christchurch, caring New Zealanders gathered for ‘Tables for Tamariki’, a special fundraising event for Tamariki Tipu – Growing Children. The initiative raises funds to develop essential training, resources, and a first-of-its-kind qualification for children’s workers in primary schools.

Tables for Tamariki event

At the events, participants painted tables with vibrant Resene paints and wrote heartfelt messages of encouragement. “Thanks to the generosity of sponsors like Resene, schools around New Zealand have received these tables,” National Director Aimee Visser says. “Far more than outdoor furniture, they quickly became gathering spaces for connection and belonging, offering children’s and youth workers a place to share kai (food), swap stories or simply pause with tamariki (children) and taiohi (youth) to read the encouraging messages. Schools have even been inspired to build or refurbish more tables of their own, multiplying the impact”.

For more than 26 years, 24-7 YouthWork has partnered local schools and community organisations to place presence-based youth workers, primarily in high schools and intermediates. In response to growing emotional and behavioural needs among younger tamariki, the model has now expanded into Tamariki Tipu – Growing Children, supporting Years 1–8. This ‘whole of school age’ approach fosters wellbeing, resilience, and proactive care. Currently in its pilot phase, Tamariki Tipu will launch nationwide in 2026, helping children across New Zealand build strong and hopeful futures.
