Paint recycling service acceptance criteria

All returns must be given to a staff member. Please ensure lids can be easily removed for checking. For health and safety reasons, if the lid cannot be removed easily and safely we cannot accept that item.

Please do not leave any returns until they have been checked and accepted.

Due to DG requirements, there is a volume limit of recycled paints/stains that we can hold at one time. At times we will not be able to accept products and may ask you to return them on another day. Resene PaintWise reserves the right to refuse any returns.

We DO accept

Waterborne paints/primers/sealers/stains, all brands, must be in easily legible original labelled/printed packaging (a small amount of rust on the packaging is acceptable*).
Solventborne paints/primers/sealers/stains, all brands, must be in easily legible original labelled/printed packaging (a small amount of rust on the packaging is acceptable*).
All protective coatings two packs and hardeners produced by Resene or Resene Group companies (Altex, Resene, Rockcote/PSL/Resene Construction).
All polyurethanes.
All textured coatings produced by Resene or Resene Group companies (Altex, Resene, Rockcote/PSL/Resene Construction).
All mineral turps, paint thinners, raw or boiled linseed oil, tung oil, methylated spirits and solventborne brush cleaners. The solvents can be 'dirty' - i.e. they have been used for cleaning but must be in their original identifiable container for safety reasons.
Selected additives - Resene Hot Weather Additive, Resene Brushing Additive, Resene Summit Roof Spray Additive and Resene Summit Roof Brushing Additive.
Resene Strip-Off paint stripper.
All Resene empty tinter cans.
Automotive and marine paints, stains or clears produced or sold by Resene or Resene Group Companies (Altex, Resene).

We DO NOT accept

Any product where the lid cannot be removed easily and safely.
Acids of any kind.
Automotive and marine paints, stains or clears produced or sold by companies other than Resene or Resene Group Companies (Altex, Resene).
Protective coatings two packs and hardeners produced by companies other than Resene or Resene Group Companies (Altex, Resene, Rockcote/PSL/Resene Construction).
Wallpapering or tiling materials, glues, pastes, grouting, sealants, adhesives, etc.
Any paint not in original labelled packaging (i.e. no paint in glass jars, no paint in non-paint cans etc).
Aerosol/spray cans.
Road coatings, Flint coatings, non-Resene paint strippers.
Textured coatings produced by companies other than Resene or Resene Group Companies (Altex, Resene, Rockcote/ PSL/Resene Construction).
Any dyes, tinters or colourants produced or sold by companies other than Resene or Resene Group Companies (Altex, Resene, Rockcote/PSL/Resene Construction).
Pack sizes less than 1 litre or over 10 litres produced by companies other than Resene or Resene Group Companies (Altex, Resene, Rockcote/PSL/Resene Construction).
Rusty cans (a small amount of rust on the packaging is acceptable*).
Wash water.

Maximum returns in a single visit – 20 packs.
A charge applies to non-Resene branded product to help cover the costs of product stewardship – check with your Resene ColorShop team.
Resene testpots may also be returned to Resene ColorShops for reuse, recycling or responsible disposal.
