From the Resene/Your Home and Garden Colour Home Awards Competition - Second finalist 2018/19
A fresh white paint job with beachy blue accents has brought out the character of this Dunedin cottage by the sea
Redecorating her 1950s house in Anderson’s Bay, Dunedin, required a lot of planning for Kathy Baughan. “For years I’ve cut up design magazines and pasted pictures in a journal to create my wish list and personal style,” she says.

Once ready, Kathy, who works in childcare and as a sales consultant, gave the seaside home a “modern, beachy” makeover, with a fresh white and blue palette. The crisp white of Resene ‘Half Bianca’ is complemented by shutters in Resene ‘Opal’, a front door in Resene ‘Shadowy Blue’ and a patio in Resene ‘Traffic’, a charcoal grey.
Kathy’s friend Shelley Wright Chalmers, an interior designer, helped her to finalise colours and Frank Tainton did the painting. Kathy has lived here with children Isadora and Alasdair (pictured) and Annabelle for eight years.
