A moody powder room gets a facelift thanks to whimsical wallpaper.
Maureen Baird’s friends have always said that she’s got a good eye for design. Last year, the Timaru resident had a chance to prove it with the completion of her home, picking out Resene colours, designs and Resene wallpapers to bring her vision to life.
“It was very exciting choosing what I liked for the home with so many different styles to choose from these days,” she says.
For the powder room, Maureen settled on the “beautiful, moody patterned wallpaper from Resene’s English Style Wallpaper Collection MR70100”, which feels richly gothic and swooningly romantic all at once. Complementary rose-pink tiles were installed above the vanity to “enhance the pinks in the wallpaper”, while the bathroom lighting “reflects the silver in the wallpaper, giving it interest”.
The overall effect feels like you’re immersed in a William Morris-esque wonderland, a choir of birdsong greeting you upon entry. “The quirky pink birds take your eye straight to them,” Maureen says. A black vanity and a luxury fragrance diffuser add the finishing touches to this space. “Our powder room is so exciting, you just don’t want to leave.”
