A hidden library nook becomes a leafy refuge.

Purchased during 2020, Lisa Foote spent several months last year extensively renovating her “special gem” of a Christchurch home.

“Our goal was to lighten and brighten our once dark home and to include some unexpected pops and surprises,” she says. Her library, which was once a bathroom, is a lovely hidden room accessed from cavity sliders off the lounge.

To highlight this unexpected element, Lisa chose a feature wall of Resene Wallpaper Collection 36630-1 to decorate the bar area. Behind glass floating shelves, the leafy pattern blooms with colour and personality, offering a rich reward for anyone who happens upon the concealed room. To complement the wallpaper, Lisa used Resene Half Merino throughout, which also helps to lighten her ’80s-style home and provides a calming effect on the library’s shelves and nooks.

“Honor Moore from Resene ColorShop Lichfield St, Christchurch was a wonderful help in selecting colours to suit the existing features in the home we were keeping,” Lisa says. “We’re thrilled with the results.”

The library is now the perfect place to get cosy with a good book, or a glass of whisky, and get lost in a fantastical tropical world.
