Background to mural creation:
On the occasion of Kawerau’s 60th birthday, the Kawerau District Council commissioned five murals depicting scenes from Kawerau’s past.

This mural was one of that series of murals.The themes were chosen by talking to some of the town’s long term residents about what mattered to them.
