Mural theme:
Turangawaewae. A place to stand, our place, home. A fantastically fertile environment on so many levels – spiritually, emotionally, agriculturally and artistically. A district of exceptional weather, dramatic landscapes, age old legends, fertile soils, political vibrancy, friendly people. Fiercely enhancing and protecting our natural and social environments, from our mountain ranges to our wetlands – our agriculture, horticulture, viticulture… the fruit bowl of Aotearoa. From our markets to our villages, our wananga, theatres, museums, hospitals, sports grounds, playgrounds and parks – we have it all, we love it all, great things grow here.
Background to mural creation:
This mural was a council project to beautify and enhance the Village Green Play Area and to evoke and inspire conversation about local ‘values’ – past, present and future.
