Dramatic artitistic Bentwood chair

Make a real statement with this theatrical twist on a traditional bentwood chair.

Difficulty level: Moderate

You will need: an old bentwood chair, a clean cloth, paintbrush and sandpaper, wood filler and knife for filling. Resene Lustacryl tinted to Resene All Black and Resene Pohutukawa, Resene Quick Dry, Resene testpots of Resene Bullion and Resene Porsche.

To get the look: Mark painted the background wall with Resene SpaceCote Flat tinted to Resene Corn Field.

Other ideas: Create a clean contemporary look with a combination of Resene Double Alabaster, Resene Silver Chalice and Resene Silver Aluminium.

Step one
Fill any imperfections in the chair with wood filler. Allow to dry and lightly sand the whole chair with sandpaper.

Step two
Wipe off any sanding residue with a clean cloth and allow to dry.

Step three
Apply one coat of Resene Quick Dry to the chair and allow two hours to dry.

Step four
Apply one coat of Resene Porsche to the outer rim of the seat and allow two hours to dry.

Step five
Apply two coats of Resene Bullion to the outer rim of the seat, allowing two hours for each coat to dry.

Step six
Apply one coat of Resene All Black to the underside, legs and back of the chair. Allow two hours to dry.

Step seven
Apply a second coat of Resene All Black to the underside, legs and back of the chair. Again, allow two hours to dry.

Step eight
Apply two coats of Resene Pohutukawa to the seat, allowing two hours to dry.
