Transform a plain chair into a colourful masterpiece using a selection of testpots from Resene.

Difficulty level: Moderate

You will need: Clean cloth, Low tack masking tape, Paintbrushes, Resene Lustacryl tinted to Resene Sazerac, Resene Quick Dry Resene testpots of Resene ASAP, Resene Buttercup, Resene Celebrate, Resene Freelance, Resene Fresh, Resene Good Life, Resene Into The Blue, Resene Optimist, Resene Point Break, Resene Ringo and Resene Ruby Tuesday, Sandpaper, Wooden chair.

To get the look: Mark applied Resene Qristal ClearFloor to the wooden floorboards.

Other ideas: In the same way, create a funky ‘barcode’ effect using a combination of Resene Black stripes over a basecoat of Resene Alabaster.

Step one
Remove the upholstered seat from the chair. Sand any areas of bare wood and lightly sand the old paintwork to ‘key’ the surface.

Step two
Wipe off any sanding residue with a clean cloth.

Step three
Spot prime any areas of bare wood with Resene Quick Dry and allow two hours to dry.

Step four
Apply two coats of Resene Sazerac to the chair (except for the back), allowing two hours for each coat to dry.

Step five
Mask off a series of stripes down the back of the chair, as shown.

Step six
Paint stripes with two coats of Resene ASAP, Resene Celebrate, Resene Freelance, Resene Good Life, and Resene Ruby Tuesday. Allow two hours for the first coat to dry and then remove tape before the second coat has dried. Allow to dry.

Step seven
Mask off a second series of stripes down the back of the chair, as shown.

Step eight
Repeat step six using Resene Buttercup, Resene Fresh, Resene Into The Blue, Resene Optimist, Resene Point Break, and Resene Ringo. Refit the upholstered seat.
