It’s easy to transform a humble laminate chair into a retro feature with a little bit of help from Resene.

Fun with furniture with Mark Rayner - Project 52

Difficulty level: Moderate

You will need: Clean cloths, laminate chair, paint stirrer, paintbrush, Resene Lustacryl tinted to Resene Tomorrow, Resene Waterborne Smooth Surface Sealer, sandpaper, warm soapy water.

To get the look: Mark varnished the floorboards with Resene Qristal Clear Polyurethane.

Other ideas: For a bright orange effect paint the chair with Resene Lustacryl tinted to Resene Adrenalin.

Step one
Carefully wash the chair with warm soapy water and wipe off any residue with a damp cloth. Allow to dry.

Step two
Lightly sand the laminate back and seat with sandpaper.

Step three
Wipe off any sanding residue with a clean cloth.

Step four
Carefully stir the Resene Waterborne Smooth Surface Sealer.

Step five
Apply one coat of Resene Waterborne Smooth Surface Sealer to the laminate back and seat and allow to dry.

Step six
Carefully stir the Resene Lustacryltinted to Resene Tomorrow.

Step seven
Apply one coat of Resene Lustacryl tinted to Resene Tomorrow to the laminate chair back and seat and allow to dry.

Step eight
Apply a second coat of Resene Lustacryl tinted to Resene Tomorrow to the laminate chair back and seat and allow to dry.
