Plant shelves
It’s easy to brighten up a corner of a conservatory with these stylish plant shelves.

Difficulty level: Moderate
You will need:
- Clean cloths
- Damp sponge
- Old varnished wooden shelving unit
- Paint stirrer
- Paintbrush
- Resene Karen Walker Chalk Colour tinted to Resene Blanched Pink
- Resene Karen Walker Vintage Soft Wax
- Rubber gloves
- Sandpaper
To get the look: Mark painted the conservatory wall with Resene SpaceCote Flat tinted to Resene Half Dutch White.
Other ideas: For an antique white effect, paint the shelves with Resene Karen Walker Chalk Colour tinted to Resene Milk White.
Step one
Wipe any dust or surface dirt from the shelving unit with a damp sponge and allow to dry.
Step two
Lightly sand the shelving unit to ‘key’ the varnished surface.
Step three
Wipe off any sanding residue with a clean cloth.
Step four
Carefully stir the Resene Karen Walker Chalk Colour tinted to Resene Blanched Pink.
Step five
Apply one coat of Resene Karen Walker Chalk Colour tinted to Resene Blanched Pink to the shelving unit and allow to dry.
Step six
Apply a second coat of Resene Karen Walker Chalk Colour tinted to Resene Blanched Pink to the shelving unit and allow to dry.
Step seven
Wearing rubber gloves, apply a small amount of Resene Karen Walker Vintage Soft Wax to the painted surface using a clean cloth.
Step eight
Wipe off any excess Resene Karen Walker Vintage Soft Wax using a second clean cloth and allow the wax to dry.
