How to make a gardening caddy

Make your own portable gardening tool organiser.
Keep gardening tools handy and avoid losing your hand trowels and twine with your own gardening caddy. You can create one easily using a few upcycled tins, painted in your favourite Resene colour. For the best result, combine a mix of tin sizes.
You need
- 8-10 clean empty tins
- Can opener
- Wood, approximately 35cm x 12cm in size and around 3cm thick
- Drill and medium drill bit
- Square screwdriver and screws
- Handle with screws
- Resene paint in a colour of your choice
- Paint brush
Method
Step 1: Run the can opener around the top of each tin to make sure all edges are smooth.
Step 2: Drill a small hole in each can, 1-2 cm below the top of the rim.
Step 3: Use screws to attach the cans to the sides, and each end, of the wood. Using a square screwdriver and screws means you don’t need to pre-drill the wood.

Step 4: Paint all surfaces. Begin with Resene Galvo One as a primer to help your paint finish last longer. For the topcoats I used the hard-wearing Resene Enamacryl in the lovely smoky shade of Resene Blue Bayoux. Or, for a range of colours you could use Resene testpots.
Step 5: Allow paint to dry before attaching a handle to the top edge of the wood. I used a light but sturdy old cabinet handle.
