Why do you love working with Resene colour?

Resene has a versatile palette with a wide range of hues and finishes, allowing for endless creativity. The high quality gives consistency and reliability, which is crucial for everyone from a DIY enthusiast to a professional decorator – trust me, I’ve been both! Plus, its dedication to sustainability aligns with my values as a designer.

What effect does paint colour have on an interior?

It influences everything from mood to size perception. It can make a room feel cosy and intimate or expansive and airy. The right colour can enhance architectural features, highlight furnishings and tie a design scheme together. It’s a powerful tool for transforming a space and expressing personality.

What’s your advice on creating a colour scheme?

Start by considering the mood and function of the space. Choose one main colour that achieves the desired ambience then build around it with complementary tones. Experiment with different shades, textures and finishes to add depth and interest. Don’t be afraid to mix bold colours with neutrals for balance and always test colours in the actual lighting conditions of the room – paint large pieces of card, not the wall, so that you can move them around.

What are your current three favourite Resene colours?

Resene Bianca is a soft off-white that’s timelessly elegant, effortlessly brightens up any space and has subtle warmth. Resene Gunmetal is a sophisticated deep grey with subtle navy undertones which brings depth and richness to a room. It adapts to different lighting conditions, appearing warmer or cooler, and adds drama and modernity.

Resene Pravda is a sophisticated neutral with velvety richness that has a sense of opulence. It’s versatile so can be paired with neutrals and bold colours.
