True character

The Jorgensen family fell in love with the original character features of their 1923 bungalow and when they undertook the restoration on the house we wanted to retain and enhance them wherever possible. On the interior of the house a major part of this was the beautiful rimu joinery.

They chose Resene colours that matched the natural golden tones of the rimu and used Resene Qristal Clear polyurethane to protect all the new rimu windows and doors. For the exterior of the house they wanted to be as true as we could to an original bungalow colour scheme so they chose colours from the Resene Heritage range. The colour palette used was Resene Bali Hai, Resene Merino, Resene Charade, Resene Pearl Lusta and Resene Half Pearl Lusta.

They had already decided the house would be blue but were delighted when the painters stripped back the paint and discovered the house had actually been blue originally. The colour changes in the light, on bright sunny days it appears almost sweet baby blue while on overcast days it takes on a more sombre tone.

Bungalows are beautiful in their simplicity and they kept this tradition in mind across their renovation; clean lines, practical use of space and natural materials. It all comes together in a warm, unfussy home.

Thanks to the Jorgensen family.
