Complementing the view

The Dillon family project was a renovation of their home of 11 years while still living there.

They wanted to create a relaxed family home. The house was a 1950s with a 70s addition. The challenge was to marry together the two areas and make them appear as one.

After changing the roof line to two mono slopes, recladding, rewindowing, lifting all the ceiling to the 2.8 metre stud of the 1950s part of the house, rearranging bedrooms, tidying up the family bathroom and extending to create a master suite, they were ready to paint. Most areas were finished in Resene SpaceCote Low Sheen for durability.

The large open plan living room was focused on the view to the harbour. Resene Half Thorndon Cream was chosen as it didn't distract from the view and had a warmth to it. They used Resene East Bay on the inside of the balustrade to lead to the colour of the harbour.

In the lounge the views are of the garden so Resene Sisal on the walls tied in well with the nature outside the windows. It also created a cosy room enhanced by the woodburner, with the surround painted in Resene Gumboot.

The children were allowed to choose their bedroom colours. Blue was the resounding choice of their daughter, and Resene Altitude created a fun room. Their son's room is Resene Secrets, which is a very versatile green for adding furnishings to and it has created a very relaxing room.

They had never had a nice bedroom so when the new master suite was created deciding on the right colour was so important. Resene Bounty has helped create a true grownups bedroom.

The third bedroom is finished in Resene Half Thorndon Cream and the bathroom in Resene Quarter Thorndon Cream.

Ceilings throughout were painted in Resene Half Alabaster and all trims in Resene Eighth Thorndon Cream.
