DIY adventure
Six years ago the Johnson family purchased a derelict and abandoned farmhouse on 10 acres of land. The house had been sitting empty (except for rats and birds) for approximately 18 years. They have renovated throughout, knocking down walls and chimneys, adding wrap-around porches and French doors, replacing weatherboards and landscaping a garden out of the surrounding paddocks. They have had many adventures along the way including living with only a coal range and an open fire for heating, toilet training a two year old on an outside toilet and lugging water from the creek in the snowfall. This year in a final effort they have added an extension which enlarged the bathroom and added two bedrooms for their two boys.
They have used Resene paints exclusively throughout the house and on the exterior also. Both of their sons' bedrooms are finished in Resene Dutch White, with a feature wall of Resene Guardsman Red in one and Resene Pizazz in the other. The kitchen walls are finished in Resene Golden Glow with a glass splashback in Resene Monza. The bathroom is painted in restful Resene Periglacial Blue.
Outside the weatherboards are finished in Resene Half Tapa complemented by windows finished in Resene Black White.
