Hiding in plain sight

Just as their tabby cat is camouflaged by nature of brown and green, the Finn family chose to paint their formerly white home in shades of grey to help it blend into the regenerating native bush that makes up half of their section. The greys also help hide the 1980s brown aluminium window frames! As the native gardens grow, the greys will emphasise the lush green foliage. Their cat may have influenced the colour scheme, but Jasper the dog had the last laugh when the front door was painted a bright blue Resene colour sharing his name!

Indoor colour choices were easy. Previously owned by an elderly lady, the home had been cream and pink; so they knew that regular neutral tones were off the list! They are both drawn to blues, and the photos and art they owned before the renovation were influenced by this. It was important that the shades of blue chosen were grey based and not pastels. The master bedroom is now a serene sanctuary with Resene Oxygen walls. The greys used in the new kitchen and on the living room walls complement the palette so well that friends comment on how well previously-owned art photos blend in.

The living area and kitchen are finished in Resene Geyser. Trim and joinery throughout is in Resene Black White with ceilings in white. The spare bedroom, study, entranceway and hall are in Resene Half Oxygen. In the bathroom the glass splashbacks are finished in Resene Black White on green glass, in the kitchen the glass splashback is finished in Resene Scotty Silver. To complete the look the Cortica cork tiles in the entranceway, laundry and bathroom are also finished in Resene colours.

The exterior is finished in Resene Stack complemented by Resene Mako on trim, trellis and the front door step with the entrance weather roof finished in Resene Armadillo.
