Preserving history

The Roberts’ project has been about preserving, renovating and adding to a 1900s cottage. An oldy but a toughy, she survived with very little damage from the Canterbury earthquakes, better than most homes half its age. They have found it a privilege to work on preserving a piece of history when they have lost so much.

As she stands on a lovely old quarter acre section they had room to add on to make her a little bigger to accommodate their needs. They opted to build a new lounge and master bedroom with ensuite and robe with the help of a sympathetic draughtsperson and fantastic builder.

The outside is a combination of Resene Merino, Resene Double Tea and Resene Coffee Bean. The inside living areas are Resene Tea with Resene Alabaster in the bedroom and ensuite.

They also painted some of the furniture in a wash of Resene Half Tea and water, which looks fantastic. The furnishings are in keeping with the era of the house by bringing in lots of bold florals. They had a lot of fun scouring antique shops and demolition yards looking for just the right materials to work with.

The result is delightful and totally perfect to live in.
