Helpful advice

The redecoration of this 1960s-built bachelor pad turned into a ‘silk purse’ scenario. Renovations had fallen into the "don't know where to begin" basket for quite some time before the owner took the plunge with advice from consultant and project coordinator, Julia Thorne of Residential Property Makeovers.

The Resene Tea family was selected from The Range Whites & Neutrals, a rejuvenating and versatile tone for the base ‘canvas’ to work. The ceilings were painted in Resene Eighth Tea, the walls in Resene Quarter Tea and the cupboards and doors Resene Half Tea, allowing Julia to introduce personality and warmth on feature walls.

The bedroom needed to be ‘manly’ but still inviting and Resene Half Robin Egg Blue from the Karen Walker Paints range worked beautifully.

Julia selected colours that integrate well with an eclectic mixture of memorabilia and décor, from the conservative to contemporary. She feels it is important for people to be able to change the feel of a room down the track, with accessories or a new coat of paint rather than another major makeover.

For today however there is nothing but delight with the choices that really have turned his house into a ‘home’.
