Brightly bold

The Kyriakoudis family home reflects Karen's love of bright and muted brights against white or a dark backdrop. She likes the freshness of white and the anchor a dark backdrop can provide for intense brights.

When they moved into their home, Karen promptly painted over the dark green cupboards using Resene Alabaster. The kitchen walls also got the Resene Alabaster treatment. The intention was to increase light reflectivity as the room was very dark.

Karen then moved the Resene Alabaster lick to lighten the lounge from a muddy non-descript neutral. The kitchen needed a splash of colour and Karen painted triangles on plywood using a vast array of Resene testpots that she had collected over many years.

She later painted a nook off the kitchen in Resene Racing Green to create some interest against the white. Bored again of the white upon white look Karen injected more colour into the kitchen by making the most of the demarcated panels in the kitchen. She painted these Resene Ziggurat, Resene Glamour Puss and then Resene Havoc. Resene Havoc was tonally wrong and so she mixed it with Resene Alabaster to bring the tone down. One of the kitchen chairs then got the Resene Havoc splash. At the same time the kitchen table was treated to a clear finish of Resene Aquaclear to protect the timber.

Then as a finishing touch, Karen painted a bedroom in Resene Nero to showcase some beautiful gifted fabric she had sewn into a headboard.
