Blue view

The Williams family painted this room using Karen Walker colours from Resene, because Alison is a fan of Karen Walker's style and taste.

Alison built the bookcase, window seat and side table and used a furniture spray machine to paint them in Resene Buttery White. She also chose Resene Buttery White for the ceiling because she wanted a relaxed, subdued ceiling rather than using Resene Alabaster which is what she usually uses for ceilings (in common room areas).

The view looks out onto a grassy horse paddock and the Tararua ranges so she wanted a blue that would link in with the view. Alison loves the dusky blue of Resene Periglacial Blue, which works in beautifully with the view.

Alison's handiwork also extends into the laundry room. She created a modern version of French Country with purple and creams. The top half of the walls is Resene Zappo, clean and modern and is a true purple without looking girly. The lower half of the walls, ceiling and trim is Resene Alabaster. For the plywood floorboards she used Resene Buttery White with a few coats of polyurethane over the top.

The cabinets and laundry bench were her first attempt at building cabinets. Alison used Resene Eighth Sisal on the cabinetry because it looks like a French cream and suited the French Country inspired look she wanted.

The laundry bench is 1.8 metres long because Alison wanted plenty of space to fold the laundry and the view out of the window looks onto the herb and vege garden so it is a pleasant place to be.

Thanks to Alison.
