Consulting with colour
They had a rough idea of what they wanted but found the Resene Colour Consultant in the Newmarket Resene ColorShop was very helpful. They already knew they wanted all the walls, skirting, door and window frames to be in Resene Black White to have consistency throughout the house; and it is such an easy colour to work with, perfectly suiting the wooden floors. Then, because they were not yet ready to knock down the kitchen/living room wall they wanted a dark grey to create visual continuity between the two rooms. The Colour Consultant advised them to use the gorgeous and rich Resene Fuscous Grey from the Karen Walker collection. Touches of light blue were then used to brighten the very simple and elegant feel of the living room. As a finishing touch the painted artworks were made by Diane's mum who used Resene Eastern Blue and Resene Tuna testpots.
For the bedroom they were inspired by the stylish purple colour of a (too small) sheet that Diane planned to transform into a bedhead. They wanted to have the wall as an extension of the bedhead to create a cocoon feel. The chair was re-upholstered with a fabric in the same shade. Once again the Colour Consultant did a great job to advise on the colour of Resene Fandango. It was as if it had been designed just for this bedroom! They have had so much fun looking for the right colours and splashing them on the walls. That's lucky because they still have other rooms to complete!
