Pure inspiration

Biddy and Rich set about building their dream house nestled amongst beautiful limestone karst.

A bold use of colour in a new home

Everything about this house is an inspiration in their eyes. They started by designing the house themselves to achieve the perfect layout for their lifestyle. After living on the section for the past 10 years they soon realised they needed a series of courtyards to shelter them from the wind. The house is set up high on a rocky ridge, where most days they have wind, varying in direction from day to day.

After handing their dream project over to builders they couldn't wait to get back into the house and start the finishing work themselves.

Biddy has a love of colour and visited Resene, coming home with a large collection of testpots! The tradespeople thought she was crazy with some of her choices, but Biddy likes to be bold with colour.

Bright and bold Resene colours

Using bright and bold Resene colours

She has always loved duck egg blue/green so opted for something in between with Resene Half Envy for the lining board in the kitchen. The rest of the kitchen is Resene Quarter Spanish White. Then for a real punch of colour Biddy chose Resene Vesuvius orange for the dining room feature wall. Biddy loves this colour; it is so warm and works really well with Resne Half Envy and also stands out amazingly against the Resene Quarter Spanish White. This area then flows into the sitting room, which is painted Resene Apple Green and through into the dining room to Resene Vesuvius and Resene Ironsand.

The bathroom is also painted Resene Quarter Spanish White with a feature wall of Resene Half Envy and a vintage claw foot bathtub in Resene Hero orange.

They have a stunning Resene Pohutukawa red sliding barn style door that leads you through to their girls’ bedrooms. This slides over a Resene Ironsand wall.

Thanks to Biddy and Rich.
