Summer bouquet

Kitchen colours inspired by the dining room carpetAs a mother of three pre-school children Suzanne found most days she is house bound, so she thought she would spend her parental leave sprucing up a room in their 1930s home – the kitchen. It was a challenge - sanding, cleaning and painting, all in between family meals, attending to the needs of her children, including a 6-week old baby, and in one of the busiest months of the year - December. Thankfully, with the support of her husband, they achieved their ‘before Christmas’ goal.

The inspiration of Resene colours came from the summer collection of colours in their large 1950s Riccarton Axminister rug – ‘Summer Bouquet’, which features in their dining area/sunroom. The Resene colours chosen were Resene Red Tape, Resene Tapestry, Resene Jelly Bean, Resene Envy and Resene Primrose.

Their once tired all cream 1950s kitchen has been recreated into a fun loving space, displaying colours from that era in the order of colour spectrum, so that they can teach their children all about the prime colours.

The cabinetry framework, architraves, window and walls are Resene Half Sea Fog, the ceiling is Resene Ceiling Paint White. They have added a Resene Blackboard Paint area inside the pantry cupboards with a dual purpose – for the adults so they can write their ‘to-do list’ and for the children an area to distract their ‘little artists’ while they cook.
