Victoria has a passion for the American fragrance and lingerie brand called ‘Victoria's Secret’ and has wanted to paint her room to resemble the dark pink and light pink stripes which feature on the Victoria's Secret bags.
She took a Victoria’s Secret bag to her local Resene ColorShop for colour matching. It was a struggle at first because the darker pink is very bright and glossy but they overcame this barrier by getting a medium gloss paint. The bag was sent to the Resene Colour Lab in Wellington where the colours were matched to perfection and sent back under the names ‘Victoria light pink’ and ‘Victoria dark pink’. Victoria had to select either A or B of the dark pink colour, which she did with the help of Resene staff.
The paint was mixed and Victoria was set. First she applied the light pink basecoat to cover the old plum purple wall. Then after much angst and anticipation, which involved Victoria painting speckles of paint on the ceiling due to her inexperience with a roller and paintbrush, the wall was masked and the dark pink painted on.
It was a very exciting moment when they finally unveiled the wall, carefully peeling off the green masking tape and revealing the candy shop like stripes. The wall was spectacular, exactly what Victoria had expected but so much more vibrant and lovely than in her imagination. Since she had only painted one feature wall, she also decided to paint a bedside cabinet in the same colours to tie the room together.
Victoria has now created the wall of her dreams and now she can wake up every day and see it in all its wonder and pinkness and not just subconsciously!
