Toning down 'The Colour House'

This home was known as 'The Colour House', aptly named by the local real estate agents, but potential purchasers couldn't see past the 12 year old Spanish/Mexican riotous colour scheme of this stunning five split level home.

Bedroom

Barbara and Wayne fell in love with the natural warmth and welcoming feel to this architecturally designed home of curved RSJ beams and 7 metre high ceilings, historical matai laid kitchen and entrance floors from the old dance floor of the Tauranga Star Hotel (built 1881, demolished in 1984), the hand carved totara fireplace and laminated hardwood bathroom basins created by the original boat builder owner.

Brightly painted with Resene Thunderbird – a deep burnt orange and Resene Tacha – an overripe yellow/green avocado in living areas; Resene Endeavour – an intense cobalt blue, Resene Granny Smith and Resene Donkey Brown, adorned the bedroom interior walls; while Resene Hot Toddy – mustard orange, and cedar feature walls showcased the exterior! While intense coloured and adventuresome… this proved to be a décor difficult to live in happy calm for a busy family by the beach!

A few years after buying this home Barbara and Wayne transformed it dramatically with Resene Pavlova to the exterior walls with black stained retainer wall planters and eaves, replacing lighting with copper downlights, flowing to the fresh calm of Resene Half Pearl Lusta in all living area walls accenting the beautiful natural timbers. They love living by the sea, with lush green grasses around private stepped decks, and say their gorgeous home is now brought up to date with calmness, coolness and complementing colours!
