In May this year the Sowman family purchased a rough cast and iron roofed home for their daughter and son to live in.

The house was built in 1959 and has had only one owner. It was in original condition with only a few alterations. On purchase they took out the kitchen, altered a doorway and removed all the carpets. Then they were into the painting with a rush as they had to have it habitable by July.
The kitchen, dining and lounge were replastered to a painting finish, then it was out with the paint brushes and rollers. The wooden varnished windows and doors were sanded and painted with Resene Waterborne Smooth Surface Sealer. After undercoating it was topcoated in Resene Lustacryl of Resene Half Black White. The ceilings were finished in Resene SpaceCote Flat white and all the internal walls were sealed then painted Resene Zylone Sheen in Resene Merino.
The outside corrugated iron roof was cleaned and painted with Summit Roof Semi-Gloss Grey Friars. The soffits are painted in Resene Sonyx 101 semi-gloss waterborne paint in Resene Black White and the rough cast walls have two coats of Resene Sonyx 101 in Resene Concrete and the foundations are Sandstone Grey.
They also needed to fence the property to keep their grandson safe. The wooden palings are finished in Resene Lumbersider Sandstone Grey contrasted with posts in Resene Lumbersider white.
