Don’t be afraid to go dark

The design has made the room seem larger and brighter, even with the dark colours. It's fun and creative, yet calming.

When Kazia and her husband found this home, it was an infestation of dust mites, old mismatched carpet and wallpaper. Their son has severe allergies which meant they had six months to completely renovate their four bedroom home with a tiny budget of less than $10,000, which included a new kitchen.

It is their first home together and Kazia wanted their children to feel special in their own rooms, despite the budget restrictions.

They had some Resene Baltic Sea left over from a master bedroom repaint and Resene Triple Sea Fog, leftover from when the base of the house was painted.

With the help of staff at their local Resene ColorShop, they chose Resene Grey Chateau for the mountains to match the Resene Baltic Sea sky. Their seven year old son wanted mountains that would make him feel like he was in the snow. Quite high expectations, considering Kazia had never painted a feature wall before. Kazia set to work and within three hours his room had gone from average to astounding!

The Resene colour range has completely changed the feel of their home. Kazia says don't be afraid to use dark colours around the home, especially in the bedrooms.

Thanks to Kazia.
