Made over with mountains of colour

The Phillips family gave themselves a deadline of redecorating their son's bedroom by Christmas, and apart from the wallpapering which they had done a few weeks prior, they had one week to complete the painting (the week before Christmas).

They started with wallpapering the room with Novello textured wallpaper from Resene ColorShops. They chose this product due to its durability and because it is designed to be painted.

Deb wanted to do a feature wall and started off with the idea of geometric lines similar to the light shade, however her husband thought that would be too much work for the short amount of time they had available. A few hours later and a bunch of ideas thrown around, we decided to do mountains with golden snow-caps.

Their son wanted a blue room, so they went with blues, starting with a light colour and graduating to dark, with a night-time colour for the background. They painted the lightest coloured mountain the same colour as the rest of the room to help tie it in. The Phillips enjoyed getting creative rather than just choosing one colour. Deb enjoyed the process of painting the mountains, and even the time waiting for each colour to dry before she could seal off the edges with the next colour was quite therapeutic, especially given the time of year when they were doing this project!

The mountains are finished in Resene Bali Hai, Resene Wavelength, Resene Madison, Resene Spinnaker, Resene Bunting with the backdrop in Resene Blue Night and snow caps in Resene Apache. The rest of the room is Resene Bali Hai and Resene Alabaster.

Their daughter’s room was painted previously with Resene Jet Stream, Resene Alabaster and a chest of drawers in Resene Bright Spark.
