A theme of their own

The idea behind the chosen colours was that each room was very different from the other, and had a theme of its own.

A few years ago the Bell family bought a bach that was in a very bad condition. Slowly, they began renovating it, replacing ceilings, floors, windows and extending it; then it was onto the painting.

The idea behind the chosen colours was that each room was very different from the other, and had a theme of its own. They used the free Resene EzyPaint virtual painting software to help develop their colour scheme.

The ensuite toilet is black and white, using Resene Alabaster and Resene Black, the bedroom was done with a Zen feel, using Resene Napa and Resene House White, the main bathroom was inspired by the movie Amelie and was painted in Resene Strikemaster. The corridor was inspired by the Cat and the Hat by Dr Seuss and features Resene Atlantis and Resene Ce Soir, the ideal backdrop for their handcrafted pottery collection. The wash house was inspired by the Beatles Yellow Submarine and is finished in Resene Bright Spark. The guest bedroom is seaside themed in Resene Mystic and Resene Horizon and the sunroom, finished in Resene Persian Plum, shows their photos and crafts collected in their travels like in a curiosity room. Daughter Zoe’s room is painted with Resene Rising Star.

At the moment they are taking advantage of the daylight and working to create a garden incorporating all four elements. All the new part of the house is painted in Resene Sante Fe, with doors and eaves in Resene Dorado. The work is still ongoing with their current project using Resene Woodsman Iroko for the fence and flowerbeds.

Thanks to the Bell family.
