What small boy wouldn't love this stunning room? And especially when it has a special connection to his beloved late grandfather.

Millie MacAlpine chose the interior schemes for her family's new home in Canterbury with the help of her mother Veronica Moore. The theme for son Monty's bedroom came from a red iron tool box on the wall which used to belong to his Poppy. Monty and his grand-dad shared a special bond and he was devastated when he passed away.

Millie interpreted the red in Resene Jalapeno, which she then used as a feature wall behind the bed.

Another wall is covered in a patchwork of old corrugated iron and roughly painted in colours inspired by a striped fabric Millie found for the window blind – Resene Billy T (a sharp yellow-green) and Resene Matisse (blue). Although the colours are very strong, the room and its adjoining study are large enough to take the mix. The ceiling is in Resene Rice Cake.

Millie added some old car registration plates and road signs, some crate shelves which were also from grand-dad's workshop and denim-look bedlinen for a look that would make any boy want to go to bed on time.
