An interest in DIY and a passion for native birds compelled acclaimed Auckland-based commercial photographer and artist Jae Frew to build frames for his beautiful images featuring native birds.

With his combined artistic and DIY skills Jae understands the importance of frames that both showcase the art and complement the room they’re hanging in. Each of Jae's photos is mounted in a bespoke native timber frame, then stained with Resene Waterborne Woodsman Pitch Black or painted in Resene SpaceCote Low Sheen tinted to Resene Half Black White.

Jae’s interest in DIY came from his father, who was a cabinetmaker. “He let me work alongside him in his workshop, quietly teaching me countless skills and tricks of the trade.”

Elevate your art with frames

top tip  Use the colours in your art as the inspiration for your room colours as well as the frame. Upload a photo of the artwork to www.resene.com/palettegenerator to turn your art into a colour palette.

“There’s a terrific range of products and colours, and the paint covers well and leaves a lovely finish. The staff are very knowledgeable and always helpful. I always use Resene – almost every surface of our house is covered in a Resene product of some sort.”
