Habitat bright ideas with Fleur Thorpe – DIY projects
Learn how to paint this Budgie Art canvas using Resene Cleopatra and Resene Salsa. Fleur Thorpe shows you how.

You can also use a photo of a pet, another bird or animal to paint your canvas

First, paint the entire canvas in Resene Cleopatra. Remember to do the edges / sides of the canvas as well. Do two coats of paint, allowing the first coat to dry before applying the second coat, as two coats gives a better depth of colour. Allow to dry. (Photo 1).
Choose a photo of your pet or find an image online of a bird / animal that you like. I used an on-line image of a flying Budgerigar. Re-size the image so that it will be a good size for the canvas. Print out the image and use scissors to cut it out.
With loops of celotape on the back, temporarily stick the print-out to your canvas. (Photo 2).
Use a pencil to trace around the print-out.
Remove the print-out from the canvas and use a small craft paint brush and Resene Salsa to paint the outline of your pet / animal, and then use a medium sized paint brush to fill in the interior of the image. (Photo 3). Allow to dry before repeating with a second coat of paint.
