Note: It’s usually cheaper to buy wooden broom handles than it is to buy wood doweling.

Instructions

Step 1: Cut 7 wooden broom handles into 3 equal lengths.  The finished length of these is 40cm (Photo 1).

Step 2: Paint 9 of the lengths in Resene Rhino (Photo 2).

Step 3: Finish the remaining lengths in Resene Aquaclear. This will make your wall hanging easier to dust later.

Step 4: Using wool, cord or string, bind the wood together by winding the wool in and out between the dowels (Photo 3). Fleur found it helpful to glue some scraps of felt to the back. This prevented the wood from twisting or moving and is especially helpful if you haven’t managed to get the tension of the wool consistent (Photo 4).

Top tip: Add colour to the non-painted lengths by staining with Resene Colorwood and finishing in Resene Aquaclear or opt for a whitewashed contrast with Resene Colorwood Whitewash.
