Habitat bright ideas with Fleur Thorpe – DIY projects
Celebrate ANZAC day by making a decorative wreath for your letterbox. Fleur Thorpe shows you how.
Letterbox painted in Resene Double Masala
Step 1: Start by painting the back of a large paper plate in Resene Green House. (Photo 1).
Step 2: Once dry, puncture a hole in the back and use scissors to cut out the back of the plate. Hang on to the circle piece as you will need this later (Photo 2).
Step 3: Using Resene Poppy, paint about 15 cupcake cases. Fleur painted seven of the larger size and about 7-8 in a smaller size. The cases tend to flatten out during painting and lose their shape. Don’t worry about this as this will be fixed later. (Photo 3).

Step 4: Cut up an old egg carton by cutting out the cups that the eggs sit in. Use scissors to shape the edges into petals and paint them with Resene Poppy. (Photo 4).
Step 5: Use a hot glue gun to glue the large sized cupcake cases to the paper plate frame. Space them evenly around the frame. (Photo 5).

Step 6: Scrunch the cases up so that they are less flat and look more like a flower. Next, glue on the egg carton poppies. (Photo 6), and then fill in any gaps with the smaller cupcake cases. (Photo 7).
Step 7: Dab on some Resene Blackjack into the centre of each poppy. (Photo 8).
Step 8: Use the left over green circle from the paper plate to cut out some poppy leaves and glue these to the back of the plate. (Photo 9).
