Paint your own DIY ombre storage basket

Create with paint! Projects from habitat by Resene

Autumn colours have inspired this easy ombre basket DIY, painted in layers of burnt reds and dusky corals from the Resene Multi-finish collection.

It's a pretty way to add storage to your living room or bedroom, and will take less than an hour to create.

Instructions

  1. This project is as easy as can be. Arrange your colours in order from darkest to lightest.
  2. Take your paintbrush and start painting the colours in layers from the bottom up.
  3. To create the ombre effect, use the colours from the darkest to the lightest colour. Nikki started with Resene Spitfire and finished with Resene Paper Doll.
  4. Paint with light brushstrokes at the top to give it a faded look and let the paint dry.
  5. Use it as a pretty storage piece in places that tend to clutter up.

Top tip: Another way to create an ombre effect is to start with a deeper Resene colour and paint that on. Then add Resene White to your colour to lighten it and paint the next band of colour. Keep progressively adding Resene White to your main colour as you continue up your basket, so your main colour becomes lighter and lighter as you go.
