Charcoal cocoon
A stress-free living environment is simple when you employ the notion of ‘cocooning’ – a decorating concept that revolves around the idea of creating a safe, comforting interior removed from the uncertainty of the outside world. The look is about going all-in with an inky shade to create a space that envelops you. Start by choosing a deep and timeless tone, such as Resene Nocturnal – a sophisticated and soothing midnight grey – to take across your walls and ceiling. This consoling colour is supported with timber flooring stained in Resene Colorwood Dark Ebony, which allows the wood’s natural grain to show through without deviating from the all-encompassing concept. By adding an interesting batten design in Resene Half Tuna, your wall becomes the artwork. From here, an array of minky mauves like Resene Martini, Resene Tom Tom and Resene High Tea can be brought in through vases, plant pots, candleholders and cosy textiles to soften your serene new nest.
Dark paint colours absorb more light, so remember to adjust or increase your lighting to compensate.

Artistic freedom
It’s hard not to wake up inspired every morning when your bedroom wall is a work of art. But you don’t need to be a professional artist to create this surprisingly easy yet effortlessly chic look. First, start with a basecoat of Resene Wax Flower. While your paint is still wet, build up sweeping brushstrokes of Resene Cab Sav from the floor upward blended with Resene Wax Flower to create a loose, painterly effect. Once this has dried, soften the look from top to bottom by buffing in Resene FX Paint Effects Medium mixed with Resene Scotch Mist using a clean rag. Painting the floor and a lamp base in Resene Cab Sav, a large vase in Resene Wax Flower and a bedside table in Resene Scotch Mist will carry these colours off the wall and into the room. Keep linens simple, soft and solid coloured to let your beautiful artistic wall effect take centre stage.
When using Resene FX Paint Effects Medium to create a wall design, build up thin layers slowly for a softer, subtler effect.

Serene in green

Prime slippery surfaces, like a ceramic lamp base, with Resene Waterborne Smooth Surface Sealer before painting your colour coats for better adhesion.
