Flash of brilliance

To counter the neutral aluminium and dramatic black of the cabinetry in this kitchen, the designer specified a vivid splashback in Resene Grenadier.

Injecting the wow factor into a kitchen can be as simple as adding a bold colour accent, or pairing interesting materials.

Dramatic kitchen splashback
Walls in this house, designed by Gary Todd, are painted in Resene Sea Fog. The aluminium cabinetry opens to reveal a bright orange splashback in Resene Grenadier.

This kitchen, designed by Gary Todd of Gary Todd Architecture, does both. Sleek, aluminium cabinetry is contrasted by an island painted in high-gloss Resene Black, and a vivid orange splashback in Resene Grenadier. This flash of colour is exposed when the cabinetry doors are opened to reveal the cooking centre.

The cabinetry is offset by light-toned walls painted in Resene Sea Fog – a slightly grey white from The Range Whites & Neutrals fandeck.

Resene SpaceCote Low Sheen Kitchen & Bathroom is the recommended paint type for kitchens and bathrooms. Resene marketing manager Karen Warman says this waterborne, low-odour, Environmental Choice-approved paint provides a durable, washable finish. And because it is formulated with anti-bacterial silver and MoulDefender, it provides protection against bacteria and mould.

Resene SpaceCote Low Sheen is also ideal for renovation projects as its reduced sheen minimises surface imperfections.
