Fresh approach

The artful use of colour can transform a kitchen.

For this project, introducing a warm red colour-backed glass splashback was a way to enliven the bank of pure white cabinetry.

Resene Desperado, a colour from The Range 2010 fandeck, features on the colour-backed glass splashback. The fandeck describes Resene Desperado as a reckless and wild ginger brown that also works well with ochre golds, resolute greys and squirrel browns. Resene marketing manager Karen Warman says colour trends increasingly reflect the need for simplicity, and a desire to create interiors that help slow down the pace of life. Resene Desperado was specified for the glass, which was manufactured by Graphic Glass. The muted red-brown shade complements the natural hue of the timber ceiling and the Jura limestone benchtops.

The contrasting tones reflect a theme that’s evident in the The Range 2010 colour palette, which has just been released. Marketing manager Karen Warman says The Range 2010 fandeck is all about contrast and contradiction.

“This collection brings old and new together, blending layers and textures,” she says. “Cool colours are drawn into warm environments, and vice versa. The strong push for sustainability is also reflected in the latest colours.”

Sustainability is a feature of many Resene paints, including Resene Zylone Sheen Low VOC. This Environmental Choice-approved paint provides a durable, washable finish.
