Melbourne
‘Utopia’ by Lisa King is an imagined place or state of things in which everything is perfect.
Melbourne is the pulsing heart of Lisa King’s paradise and showcases the ever evolving city through art, books, food and wine. Art is referenced by the sculptural elements painted into the space. It’s a nod to the NGV and other cultural institutions that provide the city with edge. The books featured suggest a historical perspective, especially to the nearby State Library. Food and wine showcase the multicultural element to this fine city.

Lisa has painted this as a self-portrait because it’s coming from her viewpoint.
The landscape painting is over 15 metres long and has uncovered what was once a dead space in the building. The painting took a month in total using a range of Resene hues with an assistant helping throughout the duration. The mural was executed during the first wave of Covid-19. The floor was painted specifically in Resene Glamour Puss to create an environment for the mural.
