The homeowners, Donna and Ian Barnes managed this build themselves and hired Tailormade Space to assist with specification of material selections, including the colour scheme.
The homeowners wanted a home that expressed their own individual personality and style. The colours were developed collaboratively, with ideas suggested by the interior designer developed further based on client feedback.
The client’s colourful personality and existing loved items, including orange dining chairs and soft furnishings were the launching place for the scheme. Contrast was used to provide a dynamic interaction with existing colours, while giving the specified colours significance within the overall scheme.
In the otherwise neutral living zone, Resene Blue Bayoux gives life and a specific presence to the dining space. The media room is an enclosed, cosy space which could not have been achieved with a pale colour. Resene Half New Denim Blue has enabled the space to function in this way.
A cabinet in the dining area has been refreshed with Resene Enamacryl gloss waterborne enamel in Resene Bismark, bringing out the colour and making it an instant feature.
The entry to the home includes a feature wall of Resene Nero, which draws you in and connects with the feature wallpaper, which then again connects back to the Resene Merino used as the base neutral throughout. Resene Merino has enough depth to take the light in the spaces and it gives the other stronger colours room to breathe. The doors and trim are Resene Lustacryl in Resene Half Merino and the ceilings are finished in Resene SpaceCote Flat Kitchen & Bathroom in Resene Quarter Merino.
Resene SpaceCote Low Sheen Kitchen & Bathroom has been used on the walls due to its built in benefits including mould inhibiting and anti-bacterial. Sarah’s thinking was that “it is a great paint, so why not use everywhere!”
